Dr. Coralease C. Ruff is a Bereavement Facilitator, A Registered Nurse, a University Professor and an International Nursing Consultant. She has held positions as a staff nurse, public health nurse, occupational health nurse, Assistant dean and currently a university professor at Howard University.
Dr. Ruff has worked in the field of end-of-life, bereavement and grief for ten years. She has received training as an End of Life Nursing Educator. She is an active member of the Compassionate Friends International Support Organization (TCF) for bereaved parents and siblings. In 2001 she planned and presented a professional seminar on grief and bereavement for health care professionals as a part of the 24th National Conference of Compassionate Friends. She is the founder of the new District of Columbia Chapter of TCF and served as its chapter leader for five years. She frequently presents workshops on grief and bereavement locally and nationally including The Compassionate Friends National Conferences, the National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association and The Society of Childhood Emergencies. She served as a member of TCF National Board of Directors for six years and now serves on the Board of Directors of Capital Hospice. She developed and implemented a course on grief and loss for graduate and undergraduate nursing students at Howard University. Finally, she is the author of a book entitled “Her Light Still Shines” a beloved daughter’s life story and her mother’s grief journey (available from publisher: iUniverse.com or major book retailers.)
Dr. Ruff has held faculty positions at George Mason University, The Catholic University of America and the University of Washington, Seattle. She has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Maryland, a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Washington, Seattle and her Doctoral Degree in Nursing and Anthropology from The Catholic University of America. Her bereavement training is through the American Academy of Bereavement, The Compassionate Friends, Inc., The American HealthCare Institute, the Hospice Foundation and City of Hope National Medical Center.
