THE IRLEN METHOD: A Powerful Tool for Children and Adults Misdiagnosed with
Attention Deficit Disorder (AD/HD), with Helen Irlen

"The number of people diagnosed with attention problems has reached epidemic proportions. It is estimated that 3 to 5 percent of school-age children in the United States (or roughly 2 million children) have been diagnosed with attention deficit disorders. However, almost one-third of these children are being misdiagnosed.

"This seminar provides parents and professionals with a way of determining if the problem is AD/HD, Irlen Syndrome or is related to other causes, thus preventing misdiagnosis and the wrong treatment. The same behaviors can have different causes. Learn the differences and the solutions."

~ Helen Irlen, Founder, The Irlen Institute

Dyslexia and other reading difficulties can be found among grade school children, in older children, and in adults as well.
What looks like the same problem can actually have different causes.

This seminar, with expert Helen Irlen, will cover the various types of struggling readers and how to identify those who are being misdiagnosed.

Autism & Asperger's Syndrome and Sensory Overload:

Identification & Solutions, with Helen L. Irlen, MA, LMFT

Seventy percent of the information an individual receives enters through the eyes and must be correctly interpreted by the brain. Any problem in the way the brain processes visual information can cause difficulties in the general ability to function, especially for individuals on the autistic spectrum.

Sensory overload causes problems processing, interpreting, and interacting with the environment. The Irlen Method helps individuals on the autistic spectrum by filtering the specific frequencies of light to which the individual is sensitive. This allows the brain to process visual information normally and results in improvements in a variety of areas
including behavior, social interaction, small and gross motor skills, and communication while eliminating physical symptoms related to light sensitivity.

Visual Stress and Learning Disabilities,

with Shoshana Shamberg, OTR/L, MS, FAOTA

Why are reading and attention span difficulties, migraines, and stress-related sensory processing problems increasing among school-aged children? Why are adults increasingly complaining of stress-related conditions?

Could it be because both children and adults are spending most of their time sitting still for long periods under artificial lighting, working at their school desks or computer screens? The lack of movement, as well as auditory and visual stress, can affect our ability to listen, understand, and remember what we read or hear. It can also affect our ability to relax and use our bodies comfortably. Such stress may even lead to illness and learning disabilities, and then to low self-esteem, chronic depression, pain, and anxieties.
In this presentation, Shoshana describes proven ways to overcome visual stress and maximize learning and development, especially in our children.

Visual Stress and Chronic Migraines,

with Shoshana Shamberg, OTR/L, MS, FAOTA

Visual Stress can be caused by light sensitivity, reading, extended computer use, movies/TV, sensory overload, allergies, brain injury, neurological and circulatory system conditions, visual distortions, motor coordination problems, anxieties, sleep problems, and more.
In this session we will discuss diagnostic techniques to target the cause of specific types of headaches and migraines and remediation. Interventions, including the Irlen Method (using colored overlays and spectral filters), Brain Gym exercises, environmental modifications, meditation/visualization, affirmations, and biomedical and integrative medical support will be presented.
Case studies will be presented and a self test will be given to see if you or your clients have symptoms that can be remedied.

Visual Stress and Traumatic Brain Injury,

with Shoshana Shamberg, OTR/L, MS, FAOTA

"Traumatic injury affects thousands of people of all ages as a result of sports injuries, car accidents, falls, colliding with hard surfaces, and strokes or hemorrhages. The effects can be global and devastating to a person whose cognitive, physical and emotion functioning is drastically impaired with severe impact on every area of daily functioning. Suddenly the person cannot remember, problem solve, communicate or move in ways once easy and fluid. Chronic headaches and migraines can result. Muscle coordination, weakness, and sensory overload can severely impact tolerance for once easy and comfortable daily functioning.

"In this webinar we explore the neurobiological causes of visual perceptual problems in brain injured adults and children and solutions to remedy them. We will cover reading and handwriting problems, memory, depth perception, anxieties, visual distortions, migraines, driving, coordination, stair climbing, and working at the computer. We will also discuss the emotional and cognitive impairments and their impact on daily living at school, work, community and family relationships.

"We discuss the sensory systems and how to integrate and modulate sensory information using a variety of interventions to create balance and greater levels of functioning. We will discuss Brain Gym exercises, Cranial Sacral Therapy, Irlen Method, and more."
